Two clocks, not one capture
Verrik is the cleric in the chapel gas. Capture is the start of his line, not the end. The developer said as much. After he catches you, be in the cathedral courtyard when bell 9 rings. That meeting is the first ending-scene trigger. Then stay long enough to hear him finish the redemption line at the end of bell 12. Players tracking Better With Friends reported that the bell 12 sentence is the moment the soul-saving flag completes.
The trophy for the quest line is Redemption. The Steam flag is VERRIK_QUEST. A different trophy, It’s a Trap! (TRAP_VERRIK), is for turning the cell on him: lock Verrik in the prison that was built for you. That is not required to hear the bell 12 line, and hearing the line is not the trap.
What not to do in the chapel
Running the Lower Chapel floor to the right starts his gas immediately. That room is a chase, not the redemption scene. Survive it, leave, and come back on the bell schedule. Standing in the gas and waiting for dialogue will end the loop.

After capture: cathedral courtyard at bell 9. Hear the last redemption sentence at the end of bell 12. Optional separate trophy: lock him in your cell. Capture alone does not finish the line.
